WRUP: Regime Change Edition

Regular readers of the site know that the upper administration is being shifted around right here at Massively, which means that Brianna Royce will now be in charge. Whereas we'll always miss Shawn Schuster's unmistakable voice and work on the positioning, the change will doubtless appear invisible to most readers.

I, for one, wish to welcome our new overlord, for whom I have nothing however respect and admiration. By complete coincidence, this week's header image occurs to be of her favourite animal. Also, I might have sent a lot of present baskets of fruit to her home. And I am positive we will all agree that earlier cases of tomfoolery shouldn't be taken into account when she now considers that she has complete energy over me.

Shifting on from the welcoming of overlords, it is time for this week's installment of WRUP, featuring the Massively staff explaining our plans for the weekend in addition to whether or not or not a graphical upgrade would deliver us again to our first MMOs. Take a look at our plans previous the break, and let us know what you'll be as much as within the comments!

@Beau_Hindman: I'll be settling down on a new deed in Wurm On-line, continuing to grind my teeth as I watch for my new Laptop to get here, and placing my exploration money where my mouth is by lastly downloading IMVU. It's a social MMO that looks very... totally different. I am also still gathering my listing of pre-World of Warcraft MMOs for protection. Fortunately I nonetheless have most of my outdated accounts!

If I updated any graphics for some of my favorite games, that will imply a downgrade for many of them. I want graphics which can be more stylized, notably like those in Free Realms or Clone Wars Adventures. I'd like to see a "serious" sport executed with a extra stylized aptitude.  minecraft servers  can keep how it's, however I actually wish to see some new avatars. I do know they're coming, but boy, I am unable to wait!

@nyphur: This weekend I'll be entertaining a visiting Swedish good friend from my old World of Warcraft guild, working exhausting on Predestination, and trying to persuade my housemates to play more Guild Wars 2!

My first MMO was RuneScape, and its graphical updates have truly introduced me back several occasions. I began back when it was a blocky world with 2-D goblin sprites, and the first large 3-D replace hooked me again in for several months. I've returned periodically to see what the sport is like, and the graphics are positively the very first thing I look for. EVE Online has the identical impact, with giant graphical updates pulling folks back in to strive the sport again.

@nbrianna: I'll be dividing my recreation time between Guild Wars 2 and City of Heroes. Double XP is on permanently in CoH, I hear, so it is the right time to roll up a brand new character in time for the Positron's Ally occasion subsequent week.

My first MMO was Ultima Online, and graphical upgrades did bring me again many times. That sport has had extra improved clients than any MMO I know... but these upgraded clients often get abandoned by the crew earlier than they're completed because many of the veterans simply refuse to change. Very frustrating!

@Eliot_Lefebvre: Metropolis of Heroes, Star Wars: The Previous Republic, and the ever-standard Offering Help to a Cherished One with a Chilly. Sooner or later I'll truly play Guild Wars 2 for greater than 10 minutes at a stretch. If I am lucky, will probably be earlier than the tip of the decade.

I am really the improper individual to ask about returning to a recreation for a graphical upgrade because graphics have by no means been what's turned me off from a game. I did not initially leave Remaining Fantasy XI due to the graphics; I left as a result of the game wasn't truly enjoyable to play. If I see indicators that the sport I didn't like X period of time in the past has gotten higher, I am going to come running proper back, but putting a brand new coat of paint on a sport I wasn't having fun with would not lure me back.

@elixabethclaire: The key World continues to be on pause for me as I devote my time to Guild Wars 2. I might like to hit 80 by the center of the upcoming week, so I'll be doing a number of PvE and WvW this weekend. I didn't mean to, however I've received a whole agenda plotted out for my non permanent "primary" after she hits 80, not to say a bit roster of who's in want of leveling after her.

Not a lot gaming for me this weekend. Perhaps some The key World.

I go back and play all of my old MMOs anyway regardless of updates, though I am very much trying forward to Anarchy On-line's eventual reskin.

@Sypster: My MMO to do record is a mile wide at this level. I really want to place a cap on Quantity III Book 6 in Lord of the Rings On-line, try the new Autumn Festival in RIFT, get by Egypt in The secret World, and make the massive bucks in Guild Wars 2.

As for graphical upgrades, nicely, if Anarchy Online ever gets that newfangled redux off the bottom, then you possibly can wager I will be first in line. It would be nice to see what a barely more up to date AO would look like.

@JayeRnH: This weekend I'm busy with a family journey, but in any spare time I have, I'm going to log into RIFT and grasp out next to Atrophinius in the Autumn instance just to hear his hilarious voice-overs. Aside from that, I will probably pop into Minecraft with the youngsters so we will work on our tree home.

My first MMO was EverQuest, and I would be more likely to return if the game really reverted back to the previous graphics of avatars and revamped zones.

@mvmatt: This weekend is my roommate's birthday, so we have bought some mutual associates coming to stay for the weekend. In consequence, my gaming time might be going to be occupied more by cut up-display mayhem than MMO funtimes. But when the chance arises, I'll be splitting my time between The key World and Guild Wars 2.

And would I go back to EverQuest or Ultima Online if both one bought a graphical replace? That's a very good question. I need to say yes, however I do not know if I'd be telling the truth. I beloved UO and EQ back in the day, however I think it will take a bit greater than a graphical improve to make me a player once more. For every charmingly dated characteristic that I fondly remember, there's a plethora of truly archaic design selections that I do not assume I'd be able to place up with.

@MJ_Guthrie: Oh my gosh! I get to recreation this weekend!! *virtually faints with excitement* How a lot can I cram in? Let's see, the vote will not be in for Choose my Adventure, so The secret World can be on hold until Monday. (By the way in which, go vote!). To fill my weekend, I am going to dive into GW2 more (I really want to check out an Asura), begin plotting extra for my EverQuest II neighborhood buying district as well as take in a number of dungeons, and unfold my wings in Aion to finish up some quests and perhaps even get a number of rounds of PvP Arenas in. I also plan on eating pizza. Mmm.

I might return if they'd flip the blasted servers back on! (RIP Star Wars Galaxies.)

@mackeypb: I've been playing more Touhou Hisoutensoku (not that any of you know what that is), in addition to League of Legends. I am at present carrying as Graves, although I'm fairly sure these reading my column already know that. It feels good to play more airdash fighters, though; I feel like a bit of a void has been stuffed in my gamer heart.

To ensure that me to go back to EQ, it might take a greater game, not a graphical replace. Actually, graphical updates mean virtually nothing to me. If the identical EQ graphics as in 2000 have been on prime of the GW2 engine, I would still be down for enjoying it. Excessive-quality graphics are a bonus, not a necessity.

@terilynns: I can be leaping into Star Trek On-line this weekend to play a few Foundry missions to speak about on my UGC podcast. I'll even be in Lord of the Rings Online as I find it very stress-free to farm and craft in that sport. If time permits, I will probably be back in Glitch as effectively. And sure, the rumors are true: Some people are twisting my arm to offer Guild Wars 2 a try. I'd pick it up this weekend.

I'm really glad this week's question doesn't apply to me. My first MMO is still my favorite, and it's a gorgeous game -- Star Trek Online!

Initially of each weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (In any other case often known as: WRUP!) Be a part of us to see what we're up to in and out of sport -- and catch us in the feedback to tell us what you are playing, too!
